Born in 1950. Attended German and U.S. schools, graduated in 1969. Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces, Combat Engineer) 1969–1970. Studied at the University of Munich 1971–1977: Sociology (Diploma, 1977); Zeitungswissenschaft (Social Communication), Psychology, Philosophy (Ph. D., 1985). Taught Social Communication at the University of Munich and the Universities of Bamberg, Dresden, Leipzig, and Munich/Bundeswehr 1978 ff.
Postdoctoral dissertation on the theory and history of propaganda (2001).
Since 2011, Chair of LMU-Study Group on East and West Prussian Regional History
